Information for Patients
Bariatric Surgery

Most bariatric surgeons and insurance carriers require that patients who are considering weight reduction surgery undergo a pre-operative psychological evaluation. Our assessment is designed to help you with this process by asking important questions about your reasons for considering surgical weight loss, clarifying your expectations about outcome, and identifying any psychological factors that could affect your surgical outcome.

The pre-surgical evaluation consists of an interview with a clinical psychologist followed by brief psychological testing. Some patients may be eligible for telephone or video-assisted evaluations. We are usually able to send a report to your doctor (with a copy to you) within two working days.

Some patients want additional psychological help as they prepare for weight loss surgery or navigate the post-operative period. We are available for psychotherapy on an hourly basis. We can also provide valuable referrals for exercise, nutrition, or additional psychiatric services if desired.
